They call Peoria the Heart of Illinois...but in many ways Peoria it the heart of the country.  Many fund raisers and charities have their roots here in the Peoria Area.  Komen, Race for the Cure started with someone from Peoria. The St. Jude's run began in Peoria and because of it... all of the races end in Peoria. The first wish for Make A Wish was given to a boy from Kewanee. Refresh & Relax Stroke Camp started here and is now a National Camp.  Whitney's Walk, Camp Big Sky and more have their roots here in the heartland.
